bad anatomy

Hannah cohen

you could tell i’m made for burning

out the light bulbs

& the universe keeps me

betting against my conception, fish-

hooked & alive

god i’m open now can you feel

the iron & thundering

& year after year

i’m unable to divine the good-

byes beginning life as birds crooked

at the wings & cradled like lovers & their dead

stars—fuck it

i don’t need help

to empty my chest of its hope
